Five Tips For Being Cool Online
Real life personalities don’t always correlate over to the web accurately. Here are five tips to maximize your social network life without being annoying to those within your social web.
- Don’t be a Feedbomber – an exception to this rule is major events where live tweeting, blogging, and status updates are appropriate. Don’t vomit your life story online.
- Life sucks…we get it – it’s snowing, it’s raining, it’s cold, I’m fat, my boyfriend thinks I’m ugly; cynical people are total downers. Occasionally it’s ok to feel bad for yourself and tell the world around you online. Expressing yourself is the best part of the social world, however keep in mind there are plenty of people who may think your self-deprecating, pessimistic tone is annoying.
- Be kind – if you’ve got something to say to someone, regardless of how much you dislike their original statement, try to write exactly what you’d be willing to say to their face.
- Grammar 101 – I’m the worst speller in the world, so I try my best to use the old fashion spell check. Watch out for those auto correctors. Nothing annoys me more than trying to figure out what a word is supposed to say.
- Be you! – don’t try to fancy yourself up for your social friends. Speak your mind, be who you are. If you feel like disagreeing…do it, just understand that you might start a fire. Your conversations are open to the world to participate.
